Canadian Ammonite #1(1282)
Placenticeras costatum. This is an extremely bright and beautiful full bodied and plump ammonite. It has excellent shape and displays all colours of the spectrum. From deep purples to rich reds and greens, this specimen has them all! This ammonite comes from the bottom of the Bearpaw formation at the Korite mine. These are the layers where the best ammolite gemstones are found. It also displays small puncture marks that have been describes as bitemarks from some sort of marine reptile; most likely a mosasaur. These bitemarks can be seen on both sides of the specimen. Only in one small area of North America does one find this brilliant gemstone. Over millions of years, the nacre of the ammonite’s shell has been transformed to take on this wild range of iridescent colouring. Specimen measures approximately 11 ½” (29 cm.) in diameter. It comes with a wood stand and a certificate of authenticity. For international shipping, all customs paperwork is included. This specimen is registered with the Government of Canada and leaves the country with all the required permits and documentation.
