Rare. Exotic. Precious. The Ammolite gemstone is truly unique and truly Canadian.
The Ammolite gemstone
A truly unique gemstone
Originating 71 Million years ago, as a result of tectonic pressure and mineralization, the colourful gemstone known as Ammolite was formed. It is now almost exclusively mined by KORITE International. Indigenous Canadians may have used Ammolite for decoration and in sacred ceremonies. However, the gemstone was not revealed to the world until the Geological Survey of Canada “discovered” it in 1906. KORITE’s founder, Rene Vandervelde, had heard of Ammolite and was fascinated by its history, rarity and cultural significance. Indigenous Canadians refer to Ammolite as the “Buffalo Stone”, others refer to Ammolite as the “Energy Stone”, “Spirit Stone” or “7 Colour Prosperity Stone”.
KORITE discovers and hand cuts the Ammolite gemstone to maximize the bright colours that are unique to each gem. Multiple layers of the natural gemstone material create a beautiful array of colour. This rare, natural expression of the spectacular gem is believed to awaken positive energy with its joyful beauty and ancient heritage. Read more about Ammolite’s significance in Feng Shui.

How Ammolite is graded
KORITE has been SETTING the standard for Ammolite GRADING STANDARDS SINCE 1979
Ammolite comes in four grades: AAA, AA, A and standard. The grades are based on the gem’s brilliance and variety of colour and clarity. AAA and AA account for only 3-12% of KORITE’s annual production.
Authentic KORITE Ammolite is ethically mined and certified by the Federal Department of Canadian Heritage.
